“Does this come in black?”
When it comes to clothes, I am always asking the question: “does this come in black?”. If you’ve followed me for a while, you will know my most worn colour is black. Very rarely will be there be an outfit worn that doesn’t have some kind of black garment or accessory in. Why do I always wear black clothes? I think my love for colour started in my (but lets not actually talk about it) emo phase. Black was the colour to wear and I loved it, a lot. As I’ve grown older and found my style, it’s a colour that has remained a favourite. Why? Why not!

Black is practical, chic, stylish and goes with any colour – including more black.
It hides my lumps, bumps and food stains. I feel comfortable and confident when I wear black, even if the colour is just in an accessory. Whenever I’ve gone out in a light colour (it does happen on occasion, trust me) I’ve always felt nervous about marks and stains ruining my look and ultimately, my confidence. If I got ketchup on my white dress you bet your arse I am going to worry about that until I am able to change my outfit. It’s just the way my head works. I don’t like the worry that I bring on myself when wearing any colour that isn’t black. I worry about the spilling of food, other people spilling food, my period, grass stains, mud etc. You name it, I’ve worried about it.
I much prefer a life where I don’t worry about where I’m sitting, what I’m leaning on or how I am going to cover up a mark on my outfit which will happen through my own clumsy behaviour.
Whenever I put something on from my wardrobe or if I’m trying something on in a store, my brain instantly says “how are you going to feel in that if you get marks on it.” Ok, so writing this makes me sound slightly cuckoo and an over-thinker but I have stained enough outfits over the time for this to be a genuine worry for me – trust me haha! Black started as a colour of practicality and now it’s a colour that’s a huge part of my style. And I’m ok with that!

Do I wear other colours other than black? Yes, of course. But do I prefer buying new styles of clothing in the colour black? Always. I think that black looks great on me and I love that it goes with everything. I never have to put much thought into the outfit I am putting together – which makes mornings run a little more smoothly. Wearing black makes me feel ‘like me’ and I’m instantly more relaxed in my outfit. It’s become part of my personal style. I do sometimes wish I could be one of these chic women who wear beige trousers and a white blazer but I know if I spill something on myself, I’ll just be pissed off about it. If I can’t pair the colour black with a new outfit, I will shy away from it – it’s a comfort colour.
After colour coordinating my wardrobe recently, I saw how much black was actually in there. As if the hundred black wash loads I do wasn’t enough? Seeing this made me want to write a little word vomit of why I wear black because I can imagine looking at my Instagram is like looking in my wardrobe. I am slightly making the effort to choose something other than black when I go shopping at the risk of my wardrobe becoming 100% black. However, I can assure you, I won’t stray far from what I know and love best. If you see me in white, approach me with caution. I’ll already be in a panic about stains.
My dress is sold out on the H&M website which is a shame because it’s amazing – but I have found 2 alternatives on the H&M site if anyone’s interested.

This one is a similar style but with a v-neck and cute puffy sleeves! Click here.

Another super similar style from H&M which you can see here.
